The Programme focuses on Humanitarian Emergency response during disasters and in managing Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CMDRR).
The programme works with communities to diversify their livelihoods and achieve Food Security.
The programme works with the Ministry of Health and diocesan Health Centers to reach out to communities through mobile medical outreaches and interventions designed for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) and People Living with HIV/AIDS.
The programme works with relevant stakeholders such as Village Peace Committees, community resource management groups and various international and local Partners such as World Vision, Responding To Conflict, Peace ambassadors and Children Peace Initiative among others to respond to conflict and to foster peaceful coexistence among the communities.
The Programme seeks to improve existing infrastructure in schools in order to provide a conducive environment for learning. This is achieved through provision of adequate sanitation facilities, water projects such as roof catchments and provision of water tanks, setting up school gardens and interventions that are sensitive to Climate Change in schools. The programme further supports Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCS) and People living with HIV/AIDS through provision of schools fees and school uniforms. Select schools also receive textbooks and Sanitary towels through the Programme.
The Programme seeks to improve access to quality water and sanitation services in Samburu County. This has been achieved through drilling boreholes, construction of gravity systems, rehabilitation of existing earth dams and rock catchments; and through training workshops on Hygiene and Sanitation. To promote ownership of the Programme, CARITAS Maralal facilitates the forms and builds capacity of Water Users Association committees to manage the community water projects. These committees are composed of community members benefiting from the water projects.
